Another log...fitted on the bottom tails...
After much wrestling I got this log on the stack. Still need to cut the top tails.

Tues. 01/08/12 at the yard...
Got some time down at the yard and got this log plumbed and braced up on the wall...
Had a bit of a scare on this ladder today, up about 10-11 feet in the air...would like to get some scaffolding, and may do that...the 2nd floor system could warrant some also...
This is a 12' orchard ladder.

Then after I calmed down I got the bottom of the ends flattened to go on the blocks, of which I measured and think I have each side so the lateral will be level. I used some log dogs to hold the log upright, you can see one of them in the pic, they are light blue steel, and help a lot when your working by yourself.

Finally, I got it up on the wall, plumbed and braced so that I can do the layout on it.

Last Log on the Kitchen/Living-Room Wall...12/28/2011
Well, I got this last log on the wall, but need to scribe it flush.
Felt good to make some progress on the log house again...I hope to get the last log on the opposite wall up by New Years...so that I will be onto the top plates and roof timbers after.
So, it was the same 'ol chicken dance...
(in reverse order)
Shaking my tail...

And a little bit of that...

A little bit of this...

Making saw sawdust again...felt good...and so the chicken dance begins again!:-)

Dec. 20th, 2011 - working on the last of the wall logs...
I draw knifed the ends of these pines to see what type of condition the timber was in, it's had the bark on it for about a year. Still looking ok, slightly stained in some spots, but looks good.

Wrestled with the 28 footer I had put up, but decided it would be best if I flipped it around, otherwise one side was going to be about flush with the opposing log. Hope to get it laid out and cut tomorrow. If you look at the previous pics I posted, you'll see the butt was on the right side, and it's now on the left.

Weekend of November 12/13, 2011
Same 'ol routine...first flatten the bottom ends...
Then get the log in position...

And brace it...gee it's dark already...but no moon...it was dark black clouds all day with just a tad of rain.

Saw a flock of geese flying south in the evening...

Another day on the sawmill...
I sure need to work out my log clamping setup...will be looking into that...
That said, was a fairly cold day in Cali, winter is here and with daylight savings boy is it dark quick...first thing we did was start slabbing up a log, slabbed two sides here and getting ready to turn it and cut the edge.

Wrapping up the 3 beams we got cut, 6x10s that are 16 feet long. As a bonus a 1x10 was needed, it was also 16 feet long. It was not quite a full moon...

Here's Stu securing the beams to the rack on his truck.
Was left with a couple planks of fir. Top one is a 2" slab 10" wide, 16 feet long. The one under it is 3.25" thick, 12" wide, and 16 feet long. On the bottom are a couple 8x8s I use for adzing.

Fired up the sawmill to help a friend out...
A friend came over today and I helped him slice up a 16 foot 12"x12" cant.
Backin' it in to the sawmill...

First thing we did was take a 2x12 off the top:

Then Stu measured off to split the remainder in half, so we would get 2 6x10s.

And what do you know ??? We ended up with a couple nice 6x10s.

Weekend of October 22/23, 2011
Sunday:
At the end of the evening I had the tails done and the log back on top:

Before that I got some solitude in working some wood with hand tools:

Saturday:
Moved the remaining timber out of the weeds, and cleaned the weeds up.
First I moved and stacked it on clean ground.
Then I was left with this mess...I was planning to use my weed wacker, but hit a golf ball about 1 minute after using it...broke all 3 of the blades off...(plastic replaceable)
Wasn't too much fun...but needed to be done. I did it by hand.

And I got it cleaned up and ready for some logs. I'll be stacking the doug fir and pines over there.

Weekend of Sept. 24-25
Rained pretty hard off and on Sunday, but was able to get things cleaned up a bit and got the last full length 32 foot long on the stack.

This is the last 32 foot that is twisted, not sure if it will be usable or not.
